The St. Gabriel's Library is located at St. Gabriel building at Huamark campus of Assumption University.
The Cathedral of Learning Library is located on the 1st to 9th floor of the Cathedral of Learning at Bangna campus of Assumption University.

3. Who may use the library?

The library is open to all. However, some services are available only for students, staff and faculty members of the university.

4. How do I get a library card?

Students, staff and faculty members may obtain a library card at the circulation counter of both the libraries. The following items are required when applying for a library card.
  1. 2 one inch by one inch photographs
  2. A current semester registration receipt
  3. I.D. card
Registration receipt is not required for staff and faculty members.

5. Are there any photocopying services in the libraries?

Each library provides a photocopying service.

Locate the materials you want and take them to the Circulation Counter in the library. Present them along with your library card.

4. What happens if I don't return a book on time? Will I be charged?

Usually books circulate according to the loan regulations. If you need to keep a book for a few more days or weeks, you must bring it to the library and tell us, so that we can renew the book and change the due date on the computer. We cannot renew a book for you by phone.

If you do not do this, we will send you an Overdue Notice, followed by a notification that a "hold" has been placed on your academic records. A "hold" means that you will not be able to register for the following semester until the matter is cleared up.

1. Where is the Reserved Collection kept?

St. Gabriel's Library (Huamark campus): The Reserved Collection is behind Circulation Counter. You can ask the staff for the materials in the collection.

Cathedral of Learning Library (Bangna campus): the Reserved Collection is in a special room on the 2nd floor. You can go directly to the room to use the materials in the collection. The staff at the information desk can tell you the direction if youb don't know where is it.

2. What are Reserves?

Heavily used items and those requested by instructors for assigned classes reading are kept on reserve. Because the demand for these items is high, loan periods are shortened, fine rates are higher, and there is only a limited number of items.

3. Who can use books in the Reserved Collection?

All undergraduate and graduate school students, and faculty members who request the materials to be reserved and who teach in related class of the materials used can check out books in the Reserved Collection. They are all asked to show their library cards.

4. What are the reserve book checkout procedures?

Faculty members:
  • 2 items can be checked out for the whole semester.
  • The overdue charge is 10 baht per day.

    Graduate School students:
  • 2 items can be checked out for 5 days>
  • The checked out item can be renewed for the second time.
  • The overdue charge is 50 baht per day.

    Undergraduate School students:
  • 2 items can be checked out for one day.
  • The checked out item can be renewed twice.
  • The overdue charge is 10 baht per day.

    1. Where is Br. Martin's Collection?

    Br. Martin's Collection is arranged in a special room on the 2nd floor of the Cathedral of Learning Libarary (Bangna campus). When you go into the library turn left and walk to the north wing. then turn right and walk straight on. You will see the room at the end of the wing.

    2. What books are in Br. Martin's Collection?

    The collection consists of books and magazines on Thailand in many aspects such as art, history , religion, sports, social life, customs and etc.

    3. How can I utilize the materials in Br. Martin's Collection?

    Contact the staff in the collection room first and tell him/her what kind of information you are looking for. He/she can help you to find what you want and can also advise you if the information in the collection is not related to what you are searching for. However, it is better to check the library homepage first before coming to the collection.

    4. Can I check out the book from Br. Martin's Collection?

    Books and Materials in the collection may not be taken out of the room. A large and convenient desk for study is provided inside. However, you can request the staff if you wish to make photocopies of some materials. The staff will ask you to note down the items you wish to make photocopies in the request book and then you may take them to be photocopied at the photocopy service in the library.
     


    1. Where is the Newspaper Collection?

    St. Gabriel's Library (Huamark Campus): You can find the current issues of the daily newspapers in the corner beside the circulation counter on the 1st floor. You may sit on the sofas provided and read them, but they cannot be taken anywhere. The back issues of the newspapers are kept on the 2nd floor. Please contact the staff if you wish to read them.
    Cathedral of Learning Library (Bangna Campus) : The Newspaper collection is in a special room on the 2nd floor.You can find both the current issues as well as the back issues in this room. Please ask the staff for directions if you do not know where it is.

    2. In what languages are the newspapers?

    There are newspapers in English, Thai, French, Chinese and Japanese in the Newspaper Collection.

    3. Can a newspaper be checked out?

    Newspapers may not be taken out of the library. However, if you wish to make a photocopy of some materials, you can ask a staff member to accompany you to make a copy at the photocopying service in the library.

    4. How long does the library keep the back issues of the newspapers?

    St. Gabriel's Library : the back issues of the newspapers are kept for 3 months. The Cathedral of Learning library : The back issues of the newspapers are kept for 6 months.

    5. Can I take a newspaper to another part of the library?

    Newspapers are to be read only in the designated area in both the libraries. You can always ask the staff in the room to make a photocopy of the material you want.
     


    1. Where is the Periodical Collection?

    St. Gabriel's Library (Huamark Campus): The Periodicals Collection is on the 2nd floor. The collection is called Phatthamodhom Library.
    The Cathedral of Learning Library (Bangna Campus) : The periodicals collection is on the 4th floor. The collection room is on your right side when you exit from the elevator, and on the left side if you go up by the stairs.

    2. How can I search for articles form journals?

    Go to the library Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) if you are in the library. If you are at home you can access it throught the Internet by locking on to the library homepage http://www.library.au.edu Cick on the Journals index and then click again on the Journal articles index. You will then see the programme for searching Journal articles. Follow the guideline provided in the programme to find the bibliography of the journal articles that you want. If you cannot use the programme, you can ask the staff to show you how to utilize the programme.

    3. Can I check out periodicals (journals and magazines)?

    Periodicals may not be checked out of the library. A photocopying service is available to make copies for you at 0.50 baht a page. Journal articles which appear on CD - Rom database can also, printed for 3 baht a page.
     


    1. Where can I find the Reference Collections?

    St. Gabriel's Library (Huamark Campus): The Reference Collection is on the 4th floor. Two rooms have been allotted for the Reference Collecton. There are three more rooms with separate special collections such as Philosophy and Religious Books Collection, Communication Arts Collection and Architecture Collection.
    The Cathedral of Learning Library (Bangna Campus): the Reference Collection is on the 4th floor. It is in a special room. The room is on the left side when you exit from the elevator but on the right side if you come up by the stairs.

    2. Can I check out reference materials?

    Reference materials cannot be checked out the Reference Collection Materials are non-circulating. This is to keep the materials together so that the materials will be available for all our users. You can ask the staff for assistance if you wish to make a photocopy of some materials.

    3. Should I reshelf the books after I have used them?

    The reference books need not be reshelfed. The library staff will do it. You can leave them on the desk or return them to the staff.

    4. What is the difference between"Reference Books" and Reserved Books"?

    Reference materials are for use in the library only and may not be checked out. These are reference works such as dictionaries, directories, encyclopedias, yearbooks and guidebooks.
    Reserved materials are in high demand and are restricted to short term loans in order to allow better access to a greater number of people. Reserve items are only available only upon request. Some material temporarily put on reserve by faculty members for the duration of a course and later returned to the general collection. Fines will accrue for overdue Reserve items.

    5. What can tell me if the book I search from library OPAC is a reference book?

    The library puts letter "R" on book call number for materials in Reference Collection. "R" is stand for reference. You can see it on reference materials call number. For example, R 382.0943059 G379 2001.
